Weekends Away

We have an active weekends away programme for those that are interested in exploring other areas of the country.

The number of weekends away depends upon demand, but our main hiking weekends are usually Easter and August Bank holiday, and we often put on camping trips through the Spring.

To book onto one of our weekends away we do insist that you are fully paid up Ramblers members. (Join)

Bank account details will be advised on enquiring, all monies paid will go through the Hike Essex bank account.

Terms and Conditions

1. Eligibility
a. You must be a fully paid up member of the Ramblers at the time of booking.
b. You must be a fully paid up member of the Ramblers for the duration of the trip.

2. Reserving your place
a. You must contact the trip organiser and receive confirmation that there is space on the trip before transferring any money to Hike Essex.
b. Three places will always be set aside for walk leaders. Please let the trip organiser know if you are willing to lead walks during the trip.
c. A place will only be reserved for you once the deposit (or full amount, if due) has been received.
d. Subject to the above conditions being met, places will be reserved on a strictly first-come, first-served basis.

3. Oversubscription
a. If a trip is oversubscribed, you will be asked whether you want to be added to the waiting list.
b. Should a space become available, it will be offered to the first person (of the appropriate gender) on the waiting list.
c. If you wish to take up that place, you must pay the deposit (or full amount, if due) within 24 hours.

4. Final Payment
a. Final payment must be made on or before the due date specified in the trip e-mail. Failure to do so may result in your place being reallocated to someone on the waiting list.

5. Cancellations and Refunds
a. You are entitled to a full refund of your deposit if you cancel within 14 days of making a booking.
b. If you cancel after 14 days, you will not be entitled to a refund unless we manage to resell your space to somebody on the waiting list.
c. Reallocation of places will be carried out by the trip organiser in strict order of cancellation and in accordance with the rules set out in paragraph 3.
d. You may not sell your place directly to another member, as this could constitute queue jumping.
e. Refunds will be processed within 28 days.
f. Refunds can only be made to the account from which the original payment was made.

6. Other Refunds
a. Exceptional refunds may be paid (in part or in full) at the sole discretion of the Hike Essex committee.
b. Requests for exceptional refunds will be considered on a case-by-case basis and only after the trip has ended.
c. Refunds can only be agreed if the trip made a profit. Since Hike Essex aim to break even on trips we recommend you take out cancellation insurance.
d. Requests for exceptional refunds should be made in writing to the Hike Essex committee via e-mail: committee@hikeessex.org.uk

7. Room allocations
a. Rooms will be allocated by the trip organiser.
b. Single members will be allocated a bed in a single-sex bedroom or dormitory.
c. It is sometimes possible that couples can be allocated a room to themselves. If this is possible, it will be on a first-come, first-served basis, however, this cannot be guaranteed.
